Linen Bedding Queen Size — What to Know Before You Buy
Posted by Avenelle Home on May 13th 2026
Buying linen bedding in Queen size in the US requires a bit more attention to specifications than most buyers expect. US sizing standards are not universally followed by bedding brands — particularly those with European manufacturing — and the differences matter when it comes to fit and drape.
Standard US Queen Dimensions
A standard US Queen mattress measures 60 × 80 inches (152 × 203 cm). The bedding designed for it, however, is not sized to the mattress itself but to the made bed — accounting for drape over the sides and foot, and in the case of fitted sheets, pocket depth.
Queen fitted sheets are typically cut to fit mattresses up to 14 to 16 inches deep. Modern mattresses with pillow tops or multiple layers often measure 14 to 18 inches. If your mattress is on the deeper side, verify the pocket depth before purchasing — a fitted sheet that doesn't reach the underside of the mattress will pop off during the night regardless of how well it's made.
Avenelle Home Queen Dimensions
Avenelle Home's The Nave Queen set is sized for the US market. The duvet cover finishes at 230 × 235 cm after washing — approximately 91 × 93 inches. This provides good coverage over a Queen mattress with drape on all sides. The two Queen pillowcases finish at 76 × 52 cm (30 × 20 inches), fitting standard US Queen pillows. The two Euro shams finish at 76 × 76 cm (30 × 30 inches) with a 5 cm Oxford flange.
Linen Sizing and Shrinkage
Linen shrinks slightly in the first wash — typically 3 to 5% — and then stabilizes. Quality linen manufacturers account for this by cutting slightly larger before finishing. The dimensions listed above reflect post-wash measurements, so you don't need to factor in shrinkage separately. Measure your mattress before the first wash if you want to verify fit before the linen reaches its stable dimensions.
What's Included in a Queen Set
A complete Avenelle Home Queen set includes one duvet cover, two Euro shams, and two Queen pillowcases. This covers the standard US made-bed configuration. A flat sheet is not included — flat sheets are increasingly optional in the US market, where many buyers use the duvet cover directly without an additional layer. If you prefer a flat sheet, it can be added separately.
Choosing Between Queen and King
If you have a Queen mattress but prefer more generous coverage — longer drape on the sides, more fabric to tuck — sizing up to a King duvet cover is a common styling choice. The King duvet cover at 260 × 240 cm provides approximately 25 to 30 cm more width than the Queen version, which drapes noticeably further over the sides of the bed. This is a matter of personal preference rather than necessity. Both sizes work correctly on a Queen mattress.
Cal King Note
Avenelle Home does not currently offer a California King size. The Cal King mattress — 72 × 84 inches — is narrower and longer than a standard King. Standard King bedding fits a Cal King mattress in width but falls slightly short in length. This is a known sizing gap in the US linen market that Avenelle will address in future drops.
